Wellness and Healing Retreat Program

August 19, 2023 @ 8:30 am 4:30 pm

We believe that health and wellness are aspects of life that we are continually working on and improving. What makes you who you are — your mind, body and spirit — all affect your health, and we believe the Contenū retreats create an environment the treats you in the same holistic way.

This retreat will focus on health and wellness activities for the person with a serious illness, and their caregivers, with the aim of giving attendees a space to refresh, recharge, and relax.

Contenū is broadening its programming while also including the successful segments of the First Retreat based on the feedback of attendees in the program evaluations.

Retreat Programming

Come and enjoy a day of health and wellness that include activities such as:

  1. Nutrition with Bitty’s Living Kitchen: Chef Kimberly Brock’s approach to community engagement is designed to help guide those seeking healing on a path of harvesting healthy habits. Her chef demonstrations help individuals become more aware of how to reverse their palates and how simple techniques can be executed at home showing how one can ultimately heal thru food.
  2. Movement and Mindfulness with Practice Works: Join Becca Impello, Physical Therapist and Yoga Teacher, for a chance to cultivate awareness of the physical body and breath through mindfulness, gentle yoga and meditation. Learn simple practices to prioritize self-care for improved well-being. Sessions are appropriate for all levels of physical ability and will involve movements seated in a chair and standing with support of the chair as needed.
  3. Get Rhythm! with John Scalici: John facilitates high energy, empowering, and experiential therapeutic drumming programs for all types of individuals and groups. His passion lies in empowering others through an interactive rhythm experience.
  4. Healing through Art with UAB Arts in Medicine (AIM): AIM brings an integrated approach to the healing process that addresses the needs of the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. Join the team in the following activities: (1) Creative Lettering – taking a favorite letter and embellishing it with simple patterns, (2) Story Circles – listening to a story in a shared group experience, and (3) Listening Poet sessions helps reduce burnout and enhance self-healing.
  5. Get out in Nature with New Water Farms: Spend some time on a leisurely boat ride on the lake or enjoy a session on fruit farming and gardening on the farm.
  6. Group Led Discussion Sessions: Join in on the conversation about “Beginning the Tough Conversations with Loved Ones” and “Knowing Grief and Resiliency.”
