Wellness and Healing Retreat Program for Healthcare Professionals

November 4, 2023 @ 8:30 am 4:30 pm

Contenū is excited to be able to offer a day of wellness and healing activities to healthcare professionals who take care of those with serious illness in the southern region of Alabama and the surrounding states.

This retreat will focus on health and wellness activities with the aim of giving attendees a space to refresh, recharge, and relax.

Retreat Programming

Come and enjoy a day of health and wellness that include activities such as:

  1. Nutrition with Bitty’s Living Kitchen: Chef Kimberly Brock’s approach to community engagement is designed to help guide those seeking healing on a path of harvesting healthy habits. Her chef demonstrations help individuals become more aware of how to reverse their palates and how simple techniques can be executed at home showing how one can ultimately heal thru food.
  2. Guided Nature / Bird Walk: Join our naturalist on a guided nature walk suitable for all ages and abilities. Guests will learn more about the diversity of flora and fauna in the park and have the opportunity to potentially observe a variety of resident and migratory birds and butterflies, a nesting pair of bald eagles, alligators, and carnivorous plants.
  3. Get Rhythm! with John Scalici: John facilitates high energy, empowering, and experiential therapeutic drumming programs for all types of individuals and groups. His passion lies in empowering others through an interactive rhythm experience.
  4. Healing through Art with UAB Arts in Medicine (AIM): AIM brings an integrated approach to the healing process that addresses the needs of the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. Join the team in the following activities: (1) Pressed Flower bookmarks (2) Story Circles – listening to a story in a shared group experience, and (3) Listening Poet sessions helps reduce burnout and enhance self-healing.
  5. Oyster Shell Decoupage: Participants will learn about the importance of oysters to Alabama history and our local culture as well as new developments in oyster aquaculture and the Alabama Oyster Shell Recycling program. They’ll have the opportunity to select their own recycled oyster shell to create a jewelry/ring/trinket tray and decorate it through the art of decoupage.
  6. Introduction to Nature Journaling: Nature journaling supports a nourishing connection with the natural world, including oneself, which is known to improve physical and mental wellbeing. Participants will be introduced to nature journaling and have the opportunity to begin a nature journal on Campus while learning how to enrich your experiences and develop observation, curiosity, gratitude, reverence, memory, and the skills of a naturalist.
  7. Make your own Candle: Guests will make their own unique hand-poured soy candle and learn about the history of candle-making in coastal Alabama and some of the ingredients and processes used.
  8. Self-Guided Bike Tour: There will be 15 bikes from the Gulf State Park bikeshare program available for attendees to borrow and enjoy exploring some of the 28 miles of trails in the park on their own.

*All sessions are subject to change.
